FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) - Preseason

Youth Activities & Classes / Middle & High School Enrichment -
Fall 2024

If you are interested in exploring the world of competitive robotics, the Binary Battalion Fall Robotics program is here for you! No matter what your robotics experience level is, the fall program will allow you to work together in small groups on a variety of robotics projects and learn what it means to be on a competitive robotics team. Please see our listing online for more information.

The main goal for 2025 preseason is to educate and train novice members while also providing maintenance and infrastructure-building opportunities for veteran members. Listed below shows how the preseason will be split into various different courses facilitated by their respective coaches. All courses will meet at STMA High School, and students registered for any course may also attend open shop times. Courses will run for 8 weeks, and begin the week of September 16th unless otherwise communicated. Please email zacharyo@mystma.org with any course-related questions.

670F3

FRC Media Training (Jeremy Bosquez)

Tuesday/Thursday 5:30 - 7:30 pm

9th grade or higher

This course is focused on learning marketing techniques, such as social media marketing, video marketing, and brand building. Students will learn how to build a brand by creating an online presence via social media. They will also learn the fundamentals of photography and videography, as a way to take their marketing skills to a new level. The instructor will use FIRST robotics and STEAM education as a focus.

670F4

FRC Open Shop (Zack Osowski)

Monday/Wednesday 3:30 - 5:30 pm

Must have at least one year of FRC experience

This course is an opportunity for veteran FRC team members to work on various preseason projects for the team. This includes competition robot maintenance, parade robot maintenance, robot cart design, pit design, and other infrastructure related tasks. This is not a formal educational experience with set meeting goals and agendas. Students are expected to have an adept level of skill in their area of focus. Students will work alongside their mentors to complete these tasks. Any student enrolled in this course will also be invited to attend all “offseason” FRC competitions in the fall.

670F5

FRC Control Systems Training (Andy & Brandon Gasser)

Monday/Tuesday 6:00 - 8:00 pm

Must have at least one year of FRC experience

This course is focused on training and educating novice FRC students in software and electrical aspects of a competition robot. Students will learn about electrical components like motors, sensors, vision systems, network, and power distribution. Students will also develop software for a real competition robot with guidance and instruction from adult mentors. The basics of computer programming will not be covered in this course, so prior programming experience is required to be successful.

670F6

FRC Computer Aided Design Training (Zack Osowski)

Tuesday/Thursday 3:30 - 5:30 pm

9th grade or higher

This course is focused on training and educating novice to adept level robot designers and directly correlates to the STMA Robotics FRC program. Learn everything from the basics of modeling and assembly to the intricacies of mechanical systems and geometry sketching. Completion of the course should :leave students with the skills and confidence to join other students in designing robots for the competition season. Any student enrolled in this course will also be invited to attend all “offseason” FRC competitions in the fall.

670F7

FRC CNC Milling Training (Ben and Brett Lauderbaugh)

Monday/Wednesday 5:30 - 7:30pm

9th grade or higher

Taught by two industry professionals with over 30 years of experience, this course is focused on training and educating students on an industry-standard HAAS CNC Mill. Students will learn how to safely and effectively program and operate the mill in the context of building robots. After completion, students will have the skill to create parts independently. No prior skill or knowledge in CNC manufacturing is required to take this course.

670F8

FRC Outreach Workshop (Keith Robertson Jr)

Wednesday/Thursday 6:00 - 8:00 pm

Must have at least one year of FRC experience

Students enrolled in the FRC Outreach workshop will focus on maintaining and progressing 7028’s community outreach efforts. Students will plan and participate in robotics related community outreach events throughout the preseason such as presenting to local elementary schools, visiting sponsors, and volunteering for groups in need. Any student enrolled in this course will also be invited to attend all “offseason” FRC competitions in the fall.
