(Diverse Multicultural Communication) skills. "Feeding the story" as a life skill for interpersonal communication skills and deepening authentic connections:In “Feeding the Story” we will learn a powerful technique that can be applied to our daily interactions with others, and in so doing greatly deepen our understanding of other cultures, from different countries or racial cultures, corporate cultures, all the way down to our own individualized culture. By having a technique for understanding our differences, we can build more authentic relationships. The Power of the stories we tell ourselves, and allow others to tell us about ourselves. We will learn how these stories can carry a powerful influence over our lives, and how these stories can be allies or barriers to how we interact with others. We will also examine how through conscious intentionality, we can recraft our own personal stories. Modern vs. Archaic definitions of suffering and how these definitions impact our communication. By examining the archaic definition of suffering and discussing how the old stories viewed suffering and how our modern definition of suffering has changed we can start to frame suffering in a way that allows us to bridge the communication gap associated with this topic. Individual stories will be chosen prior to class start date but will be from a large variety of ancient and modern cultures from across the globe and throughout history. A few examples: Mesopotamian, Japanese, Egyptian, Celtic, Norse, Chinese, Indian, and many more.
